but I got the present

you gave me the wisdom of looking at life through a child’s eye

never forgetting what it was like to be young

thank you for the care I took for granted

the love I neither accepted nor understood

and you devoted and forgiving love

you have seen me through many wayward adventures

but in these latter years for both of us

I am comfortable saying

“You did a good job and I have embraced the plan”
