”i wasn’t doing it for me”
i recently read how a sculptor worked for years, producing thousands of pieces……….worked in obscurity for 50 years before gaining recognition for his work………….becoming famous, a celebrity….and wealthy, almost overnight……
he confessed the attention didn’t bring the satisfaction he thought it would, he set up a foundation to support artists in the area with some of the money and built a senior center for the community…….. he loathed the attended attention as it disrupted his work………………he said he was able to buy better equipment but that was about all that had changed…….and that he and his wife agreed to take a vacation a couple weeks every year………..
when asked why he continued to work a day job in a factory for 40 years and sculpt till wee hours in the morning…….he said:
”i didn’t do it for me…………..i did it for the Spirit…….it seemed to make the Spirit happy…………..and that made me happy……now if you don’t mind………..we are busy”
