Robert Johnson’s Lament

Vanity, vanity, i suppose got the best of me

traded my soul cause i wanted to be a celebrity

lived hard, but not long and you can hear it in my song

know’d the price was to high

but the deal was done, nothing to do but carry on

trying to hold a tiger by the tail

took my wife, took my child so i could live a certain style

when all was said and done, lay in this grave all alone

didn’t have to go this way, got hypnotized when i heard them play

made my deal and heard the angels say:

”Robert you made your deal with the wrong man, crossroads go both ways through town, one to the left and one to the right, one to darkness and the other to the light, one to darkness and the other to the light”

Vanity, vanity………………….suppose you got the best of me
