something

there were two hobos sitting on a bench

they shared a muffin and traded hits off a fifth

the older one said son ”you can do better than this”

” but if you choose to stay let me give you a little tip”

”i choose this life because i like trains, i’m not a picky eater and i can find shelter from the rain”

” i like the freedom and i can stand a little pain, but this life isn’t for everyone”

” i have worked for men who have had it made, plenty of money, wife and kids, but they weren’t happy with themselves,

so it didn’t matter about anything else”

”you see i made a promise to myself long ago as long as i was alive, i would find something to be grateful for”

”i’m grateful for this muffin to put in my gut, i’m grateful for this bottle to warm us up and i’m grateful the wind isn’t cold today”

” as long as you can find something, something you will be okay”

the younger man shook hands and said goodbye , he walked across the bridge and started to cry

he walked to a fire station and asked to use the phone and today he sits by the fire holding his great-grandson

because he realized that he was that man who had given  everything away because he wasn’t grateful for what he had

find something, we all have something
