my grand-daughter placed a tiny nest in my hand and explained it fell from a tree

i said the nest had been used by a family of birds and they needed more space for their young

she pointed out what great care had gone into the construction and how each tiny branch had been woven, placed with great care

so i’m not sure what excited her most the construction or the chance for her to examine this wonder of nature up close and to hold it in her hand

for me it was a chance to stop an appreciate something i had not considered for some time

i’m sure she will continue to teach me things and help me rediscover things that have been forgotten over time
