recheck

every once in a while it’s good to look back with a smile, check your tracks and see the imprints you’ve made          you can’t change what you’ve done but from your trails you can learn what to keep and what to let slip away

it’s easy to get lost, turned and tossed and not know where you’re coming from          take your book of the shelf and read about yourself and see what’s going down

papers and pens a few scribbles now and then, wonder if the words were meant to rhyme          looking back I know there are stacks of things, I haven’t done        although I get dismayed there’s no reason to be afraid, what’s gone, is  already gone

bottles and caps, letters and stamps, my life is like a stuffed mailbox                        when the mailman comes, he’ll take a few letters and leave some                              from people who write out of boredom, I guess

people they come drop a few lines and run           their travels make my life a mess         by the time I find what’s running through their minds, they decide to rearrange themselves

every once in a while, it’s good to look back with a smile                 check your tracks and see the imprints you’ve made            can’t change what you’ve done    but from you trails you can learn              what to keep and what to let sip away

what to keep…………….
